I seemed to have hit another wall. Going to have to work hard to beat this again. One week to go... Wish me luck...

197.2 lbs

Knee is almost healed. I've been continuing my low impact exercise. I think I'll be able to take it back up to full intensity some time this week. Hopefully we'll see the weight loss move back up to 2.5 pounds a week.

I'm going to try a new workout. Winsor Pilates. Saw an infomercial for it and it looked like just what my wife was looking for. I figured a change of program would be great for me, plus this tones muscles as well, which is something that would be great to do prior to resistance training. So I guess this new exercise has a bit of both. I'm looking forward to it. If we get it before our vacation maybe I'll take it with us. =) =) =)

Only two weeks until Disneyland. It's going to be great. You probably won't hear from me much during vacation, but you can bet I'll be hitting it hard when I get back. Anyway, lets see if I can make 193 before we leave. Two weeks to go 4 pounds. Aggressive, but doable. Wish me luck.

197.4 lbs.

Nice to see some good weight loss again. It's been difficult the last couple days because I hurt my knee a little bit running and have had to do light workouts as a result. I think its almost back to normal. We'll see!

198.6 lbs. - 85 FBS (Fasting Blood Sugar)

Things seem to be back on track. I did have another diet caffiene free soda last night. Ive got to cut those out. At any rate, I've thought a bit about it and I'd like to see 193 before August 6th. This is pretty aggressive, but I should be able to do it. Wish me luck. =)

I'm starting to wonder what sort of healing my body needs to go through to be completely cured of diabetes. The way I see it, I have two problems; insulin resistance, and a struggling pancrease. The insulin resistance should cure itself. I've been thinking that from a purely defensive point of view, insulin resistance makes sense for a body that is getting too much sugars/carbs. If you're getting too much, simply adjust yourself so that you don't accept as much. If this is the case, then the body should also be able to reverse the process. I'm not sure how long it takes, but I'm betting once you start getting close to your ideal weight your body will fix itself, assuming there are no other problems getting in the way. There's also the idea from Ms. Somers books that type 2 diabetes happens when the body's cells are already too full of glucose. There's just no room. This too should correct itself once you get close to your ideal weight.

The healing of the pancrease could take some time. Some diabetics will not see this happen at all because their pancrease is incapable of reproducing beta cells. I do not believe this to be the case with me. Actually, there's a good chance that my panrease is putting out a TON of insulin to compensate for my insulin resistance. I wish there was a way I could measure insulin levels as well as BS levels. If anybody knows of a way to do this, I'm all ears.

Anyway, things are progressing wonderfully. Hopefully in about 3 months I will be finished with the hard part of the diet and on to maintenance, which will be quite a bit more enjoyable.

199.4 lbs.

Yes... Up again... But for good reason. I had a bit of a celebration for hitting my 199 goal. Nothing over the top... I also skipped an extra workout as part of the workout(although not the workout for the day of the celebratory meal!). So, honestly, this is defiantely not a bad position to be in after purposely letting go. It's back to the diet as of today though. I'm hoping to hit the low 190s before vacation in a little under 3 weeks. We'll see if I can do that. That would leave me about 20 pounds from my final target goal. Give me a couple more months after vacation and I should be finished with the diet. Good stuff.

198.6 - Fasting BS 86That clinches it. Today I exceeded my first goal. Great news. I even missed another workout and yet still lost. The diet is no doubt responsible for that. Tried a little cereal today... Unfortunately I forgot to test my BS at intervals after eating. I saw the about an hour later my BS was 155, so that indicates to me that my BS probablu shot up to the high 100s or low 200s. Typical for me. Hopefully that will continue to get better.

Three weeks until our Disneyland vacation. My goal is to try to hit 193 before vacation. We'll see. =)

199.6 lbs.

What a day... To finally see a number in the 100s. Wonderfull! I imagine this weekend I will hit my goal. Good stuff. My BS levels continue to be within normal ranges for the most part. I can't really say enough, but there's really not much more to say. Hopefully that makes sense to you. Again, if you need to lose weight, please take a look at Ms. Somers diet plan. It really works. If you have it in you to keep to the plan, your weight loss is virtually assured. Consult your doctor. Look at the facts. Then do it. I imagine in a couple more months I will be finished with this diet, or at least with phase 1, and will be in a maintenance mode. I will continue to check my blood sugars and will report any exciting changes. Keep checking back, and don't be afraid to say hello or ask questions!

200.0 lbs

So close to getting out of the 200s... I actually weighed in about 5 times hoping to see 199.8. Alas... It will have to wait until tomorrow. =) Only 1 pound away from my first goal. This is very exciting!

Had an apple for breakfast, an omelette for lunch, and a chef salad for dinner. BS levels below 125 for breakfast and below 95 the rest of the day... (Mostly in the 80s)

This diet works. I continue to lose weight at a rate of 2 to 2.5 pounds a week. This is wonderful progress. Great stuff. I cannot recommend this plan enough. Time for breakfast. =)

201.6 lbs

Yesterday was a weird day. Although I was able to follow my diet plan, I was unable to exercise. I feared the scale this morning, but it wasn't as bad as I had feared. .4 lbs higher. That could easily be just a body fluctuation. At any rate, I'll have to jog long and hard tonight. We'll see what happens.

Had a Carl's Jr./Green Burrito Taco Salad with no beans for lunch. This is a great, filling meal. I usually order extra beef. Good stuff. I highly recommend it. BS never goes above 100 when eating it. Let me know if any of you have any good low-carb eating out meals you eat.

Tuesday, July 11, 2006

A friend of mine sent me a link I thought I might share here. Essentially, a new study has been done in sweden that bucks the conventional wisdom of what type of diet a diabetic should have. They're now claiming that what diabetics have been screaming for years about the benefits of a low-carb diet is true! See the article here. Good stuff. Now go get on a low carb diet!
201.2 lbs.

Very close to seeing a flat 200 soon. What a celebration I may be having in a few days! A mere 2.2 pounds from my goal. There will actually be 3 little celebrations. The first time I see 200.x I'll have a little celebration as I'm so close. The first time I see 199.x I'll have another little celebration as I've finally left the 200s forever! And finally, the biggest celebration of all the day I hit 199.

I ended up running last night. Amazingly enough I was able to run further without stopping for a rest. I expected it to take much longer for my running condition to change. I hope this trend continues.

Meals yesterday were a peach for breakfast, Mongolian BBQ (w/only meat and vegetables, no noodles or carb items) for lunch, and buffalo wings for dinner. The mongolian was particularly good. BS levels, aside from the 125 from breakfast yesterday, were all well within normal ranges, as you would expect from eating meals with very little or no carbs. Good stuff.

201.6 lbs - No fasting BS

It's official. I've broken through the 203 barrier! =) I actually hit 201 over the weekend, but I generally don't count weekend figures because they never seem to stick. Also of note is my estimated body fat %. I saw it hit 26% for the first time. For a guy who started around 34%, I'd say this is great progress. I still have a ways to go, but this is encouraging.

I am now just 2.6 pounds from my first goal. With about 3.5 weeks to go, and losing just over 2 pounds a week, I should hit my goal sometime next week. This will be a great day for me. I cannot remember the last time I weighed so little. No doubt it was in high school.

I've decided that my ideal weight is around 170. This is after talking to people, checking out web sites, and all that. It seems about right. As such, I will hold of resistance training until I reach about 175-180. From then on out I will be posting body fat % information along with my weight.

I went back to DDR for a bit. I'm going to alternate between DDR and jogging for my aerobic workouts. As much as I hate running, it is extremely effective as a weight loss tool. I'll just grit my teeth and run once or twice a week for now.

One last thing. I had a peach for breakfast this morning. My BS never went above 125. This is great! It appears my insulin resistance really is declining.

Pictures are coming. I promise! I have to say one of the greatest things is knowing that I'm saving my life. I'm going to be able to be around for my son, and any future children. I hope that any of you that might be in a similar situation will take what I'm saying to heart, and make the changes you need to make to live and to be there for your families. Take care!

202.8 lbs. - No fasting BS

The war continues! =) I have just BARELY broken 203. It's so close though that I would not say I've broken the barrier. I think this weekend will determine if I truly break through. I will work extra hard to make sure I continue to go down down down. =) This is a new low for me though, so, kudos to me. =)

I have been getting a LOT of compliments lately. That is rather nice. It seems to be paying off, but I have a long way to go. I have not been watching my blood sugar nearly as closely as before because I've found after the initial dive in BS levels, that it's not something that you'll really see a difference on. I now check periodically. Some times 2-3 times a day, sometimes not at all. I won't go more than a couple days without checking my before and after meal values though.

This diet has been interesting in that it is centered around controlling BS levels, which makes it expecially good for diabetics of all types. I'm not a doctor, but I would recommend this diet for many diabetics out there. You'll see a pretty swift decrease in BS levels right from the start, especiually if you eat a lot of sugars, or carb heavy foods. Feel free to comment if you'd like more information on the diet!

203.8 lbs - Fasting BS 87

The battle continues. I am finding it increasingly more difficult to force myself to do the DDR workout. I don't feel like it's that effective for me anymore, and am considering switching to running in the morning or afternoon. I'll have to see if there is a way I can increase the intensity of the workout without drastically increasing the complexity of the game. I'm not interested in pushing my mind-foot coordination to the limit. I want a good solid aerobic workout. I guess we'll see.

I'm hoping to see at least 202.8 tomorrow. Honestly, to be on target I would need to weigh 202.5. However, I still have plenty of time to make my goal. I just need something to push me beyond this 203 wall. Any ideas would be appreciated.

204.2lbs - No Fasting BS.

I am fighting a battle right now. It seems my body does not wish to drop below 203. The last few days I've ranged between 203.2 and 205. I have done very little different, and that's probably the problem. My body has apparently adjusted to my workout, so I'll need to adjust the intensity. Of note is the fact that my body fat percentage hit 27.8%. (Yes that's high. I'm still fat.) That's the lowest it's been yet. Previous low was 28%. This tells me that whatever the reason for my body's apparent lack of enthusiasm for going beyond 203, I'm still losing fat. It could be water weight, but I don't feel bloated. It could be new muscle in my legs and heart from my DDR workout, but I have no way to measure that. At any rate, we'll see if a more intesnse workout helps.

203.2 lbs - No fasting BS... Low on test strips

This was an unexpected jump. I decided to skip exercise yesterday, although I had a good 3 hours of walking around which no doubt burned some calories. Interestingly enough my body had a hard time with my carb breakfast this morning. I had a bowl of cereail... Shredded wheat actually, in some milk. My blood sugar shot up as high as 200. It was 200 about an hour or so after I ate. It was down to 130 about 1:45 minutes after I ate. I ran out of test strips, but I would imagine it was below 120 within two hours, so still good. Need to get more test strips today.

This puts me 4.2 pounds away from my goal. My prediction is about 2 weeks to accomplish the goal. This will give me 3 extra weeks before vacation, which means I could drop another 5 pounds or so before vacation and end up around the mid to low 90s, which would put me about 5-10 pounds away from resistance training. Great stuff. =) =) =)
