SUCCESS!!!!

This is quite a surprise to me. As you can see, it's been some time since I updated this blog. I was still watching my diet, but was not really doing the exercise much. I was also cheating on the diet several times a week. It's tough to stay on a diet. =) Then came the surprse.

Three weeks ago, I had a sugar binge. I ate a bunch of pasta(high carbs!), chased it down with some buttered white bread, and then had a good amoutn of ice cream. Suffice to say, I knew my blood sugar would be through the roof for 2-3 hours. Guilt got to me, and an hour later I pulled out my blood sugar tester and ran a test. My eyes bulged to see a "92" reading. I was afraid to say "I'm cured!" because it seemed too good to be true. So over the next two weeks I closely monitored my blood sugar. What I found was astounding. My blood sugar levels are near-normal. I'm a little unsure on exactly what "normal" is these days. But here's an example. I can eat a maple bar donut, and chase it down with a glass of milk. My blood sugar will go up to about 155. It drops down to below 120 within an hour, and to 85-91 shortly therafter.

This is amazing. I'm essentially cured. I believe my body is steal healing, and so I'll still be watching what I eat, but I know I can have a little sugar now. If I control my portions, I'll be fine. I think my body will get even better. I plan on losing more weight, (I'm still at about 194), and exercising more. This is very exciting!!! So the bottom line is, type two diabetes can be cured. I believe some type 2s are too far gone to fully recover, but I believe many people can be cured. As I found, it doesn't happen quickly. After I lsot weight, it took months, almost A YEAR for my body to heal itself. It all depends on your body. Your results may very. If your body has more healing to do, it will probably take longer. But it CAN be done.

I owe a lot to the diet plan, and to those who helped me along the way! If you're diabetic, and you want to talk to me about how I did it, by all means, talk to me! I'd love to hear from you! Take care!

194.4 lbs

Odd weight loss continues. I think it must be "the burn". It appears weight loss really is possible if you control your portion sizes and eat sensibly. My lunch yesterday was NOT a controlled portion size (Mongolian bbq, 2 large servings), however I stuck to the diet... I had no noodles, just meat and vegetables. Of the vegetables I did not choose vegetables that are not allowed on the diet. I expected to hold steady. As you see I lost again. Wonderfull!

I checked my blood sugar yesterday to make sure something funny wasn't going on. Blood sugar levels are in the expected ranges for me. (I reached 100 after yesterdays large lunch). I will test blood sugar levels with my next carb meal and see how that goes. I'll try to remember to check my fasting BS tomorrow as well. The ultimate goal of all this is, of course, to ensure a long, enjoyable and healthy life by escaping the effects of diabetes, and enabling myself to do the fun things in life that require a healthy body. I wish to be around my family for many many years to come. I wish the same for all who read this. I hope my blog is seen as a source of encouragement for many. Good luck!

194.8 lbs

This is really odd. I have not been following the diet as strictly as I before my vacation, yet I am still losing weight at a decent clip. Granted, almost every meal follows the guidelines, but occasionally I have things that are off the list. This on its own wouldn't surprise me, but I have not been working out every day. I've been working out about once a week. I'm not sure what to think. Honestly, my portions are small when I break the rules, and I'm sure that has something to do with it, but I'm at a loss as to what is happening. I think I need to get my still-packed blood sugar meter and see where I'm at diabetically. That at least would help shed some light on some aspects of my health.

At any rate, perhaps once "the burn" starts, as long as you're mostly following the plan you still lose. The diet plan states that you SHOULD exercise, but that many people find they do not have to exercise to get results. Weird. If anybody has any ideas on what could cause this, I'm all ears. I guess there's the possibility that my portion sizes are such that my daily calorie burn is still exceeding my daily calorie intake. =/ I guess we'll see.

I'm not upset about the weight loss, I just like to understand what my body is doing... =)

I'm BAAAAAAAAAaaaaaack! =)
197.2 lbs.

THe vacation was great. I pretty much completely went off my diet. As you can see there hasn't been much change. I 've gained about two pounds from the day I left, where I actually hit 195.8. At any rate, the diet plan seems to have worked because I can eat pretty much whatever and my body doesn't seem to gain much. This means my body is not in "starvation mode" like so many diets. At any rate, I'm going to get back on the plan today. Wish me luck.

197.2 lbs

Knee is almost healed. I've been continuing my low impact exercise. I think I'll be able to take it back up to full intensity some time this week. Hopefully we'll see the weight loss move back up to 2.5 pounds a week.

I'm going to try a new workout. Winsor Pilates. Saw an infomercial for it and it looked like just what my wife was looking for. I figured a change of program would be great for me, plus this tones muscles as well, which is something that would be great to do prior to resistance training. So I guess this new exercise has a bit of both. I'm looking forward to it. If we get it before our vacation maybe I'll take it with us. =) =) =)

Only two weeks until Disneyland. It's going to be great. You probably won't hear from me much during vacation, but you can bet I'll be hitting it hard when I get back. Anyway, lets see if I can make 193 before we leave. Two weeks to go 4 pounds. Aggressive, but doable. Wish me luck.
