205 lbs.

Hello! My name is Lance. I am a type 2 diabetic, and at the start of my diet weighed 226 pounds. I've actually weighed as much as 240. Recently, a friend and co-worker introduced me to a diet plan, the Suzanne Somers diet. I was intrigued by what I was reading. The plan was not a crash diet. It was based on sound principles. It seemed like it would work. It didn't seem like it would be easy, but I wanted to try it because, if the diet was correct, I would be able to control, and perhaps cure my diabetes. This gave me the drive to continue the diet.

As I started the diet, I saw my fasting blood sugar levels go from the 110 level to the low 80s over a period of 3 weeks. I was able to completely stop taking medications my second week. I was also losing weight and feeling better than I can ever remember feeling.

It has now been 6 weeks. My current weight is 205. My goal is to reach 199 before we leave for our vacation at Disneyland on August 6th. My current rate of weight loss is about 2-2.5 pounds per week. At that rate I'll reach my goal in two weeks, and will be closer to 195 on our vacation. I hope I can make it.

I'm creating this blog to log what I'm doing, and what is happening. I will be happy to answer anybody's questions about what I'm doing, and why. To catch you all up, here is the numbers of my weight loss up until now:

  • 5/19/2006 - 226 lbs. - Diet starts.
  • 5/26/2006 - 216lbs. - Wow! 10 pounds in a week. This was wild. I started seeing visions of being my natural weight in a few weeks. Sadly this was not to conitnue.
  • 6/16/2006 - 209 - I was not recording my actual weight until today. The previous two dates are the only two I could remember that I was positive about. From this point on I was recording almost every day.
  • 6/19/2006 - 207.8
  • 6/21/2006 - 207.4
  • 6/22/2006 - 207
  • 6/23/2006 - 206.4
  • 6/26/2006 - 208 - Regression! Drank a TON of diet caffiene free soda pop over the weekend. Payed the price. Didn't think it would be so dramatic! No more soda for me!
  • 6/27/2006 - 207
  • 6/28/2006 - 206.6
  • 6/29/2006 - 205 - Amazing... Pounds have been dropping fast getting me back on track!
So that's the story so far. In the coming days I will talk about the meals I am eating, and other things related to the diet, as well as my goals! I hope this helps some of you!

Best of luck with your exercise and weight loss plan. I'm also a Type 2 diabetic, and I've gotten off track a bit with my diet and exercise, need to find my focus again.

Thank you! I am increasingly of the oppinion that many type 2 diabetics can be completely cured. If your body is able to recreate the beta cells in your pancreas, then given enough time with low enough BS levels, and losing weight to reduce and eliminate your insulin resistance, you can become normal again. I truly believe it. Unfortunately, if you're one of the people who's beta cells die when they try to reproduce, you won't be able to cure yourself, but you WILL be able to control your BS levels, reduce your weight if needed, and overall feel better. Since you're a type 2, there's a good chance you can cure yourself. Let me know if you want to talk more. =)
